Prime Minister’s Response

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his distress over the incident. He assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of the Centre’s full support and assistance in the rescue and relief efforts.

Affected Areas

The villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha have been severely impacted by the landslides. These areas have been cut off, complicating rescue operations.

Relief Operations

Wayanad district Collector Meghasree D R reported that disaster relief work is progressing. The NDRF, fire force, police, and local departments are all actively involved in the rescue missions.

Dam Shutter Opened

In a precautionary measure, the shutter of Banasura Sagar dam on the Karamanthodu river was opened. Residents living downstream have been warned to stay cautious.

Air Support and Evacuations

Two Air Force helicopters are set to depart from Sulur to assist in search and rescue operations. Many families have been evacuated to camps or the homes of relatives to ensure their safety.
